Lockheed SP2H "Neptune" 

The Neptune was produced in 7 different versions, beginning in 1947. The last U.S. Navy version utilized two Wright R3350's and two Westinghouse J34 turbojets (which burned avgas), for additional thrust at takeoff and at other times as required. An earlier version held the world long distance record for non stop/non refueling (from Perth, Australia to Columbus, Ohio) which was not broken until Burt Rutan completed the around the flight in his famous "Voyager". Sometimes referred to as "2 turning and 2 burning"...the P2 carried a typical crew of 14...in unpressurized, non-airconditoned patrols typically lasting 14 hours.
